The Trump administration has revoked a waiver that allowed Iranian oil sales, a key source of revenue for the regime, after Iran attacked three tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

The ⁠United ⁠States revoked on Tuesday a general ⁠license that authorized the sale of Iranian oil, as a U.S. official ​warned that Iran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz were "wholly unacceptable" and would be met with consequences after ‌attacks on tankers in the strategic ‌waterway.

Oil futures climbed late Tuesday after the Treasury Department canceled a license granted on June 21 to allow for the sale of Iranian oil.

The action comes after Iran attacked commercial ships near the Strait of Hormuz, threatening a peace deal agreed to end the U.S.-Iran war.
